Michelle lives alone in the country with her best friend Marie-Claude nearby. Her daughter Valerie comes to visit from Paris with her beloved grandson Lucas. Michelle and Valerie don't get on; almost the first thing the daughter says is 'If you give me your house now then it'll save tax when you die'. When Michelle points out that she has already made over her flat in Paris, it's met with a shrugged 'So?' Classy! After an odd incident Valerie storms out and seems determined not to let Michelle see Lucas again.

Meanwhile, Marie-Claude's son Vincent is being released from prison for an offence that is never explained and Michelle takes him on as a gardener, then lends him the money to open a bar. They obviously don't have the same tight licensing laws in France as we do here!

It's a melancholy film, about damaged people. It's packed with plot, which I don't want to give away, to the point of melodrama. Never boring.
