| 30 years from now, Mickey Barnes owes a lot of money to a loan shark and, in a panic, signs up for a 4-year trip to another planet which may be colonised. He signs on as an Expendable, without reading the small print. On the planet, he finds he is deployed to test the many ways humanity can die there, with his brain patterns being downloaded each time to a new printed body. He never gets used to dying and, when Mickey 17 accidentally survives, he is taken aback to find that Mickey 18 has already been printed and is living with his girlfriend. It's hard to know what to say about this film. It starts off well enough, with a decent SF premise, but gets very messy in the middle, before picking up a bit at the end. The 145 minutes pass quite slowly. |
