| This film is just finishing a week run at Acton One, so congratulations to them as with so many other recent films in showing what more mainstream cinemas (including Chiswick Cinema) seem to avoid, despite having more screens. As Sara says the film shows what can be done even when the whole shoot has to be in secret due to the prevailing Iranian state's control. Given its low budget "guerrilla" style shooting especially in Teheran, the results are pretty impressive. Well acted by the small cast and a script with dialogue that bristles at times, it captures very well the rising family tension between a long serving government officer and his younger teenage daughters faced with rising pressures, brought to life real time by the internet and videos being posted of the demonstrations occurring in Iranian society. I must admit since the film had steered all the growing emotional tensions so well, the drawn out ending felt too long (the film is just under 3 hours length). While the writer/director was able to flee Iran after finishing the shoot and before imprisonment, it seems some of the lead actors are now in jail in Iran sadly reflecting the repressive state regime still clinging to power in that country. |
