Kenzaburo's wife has recently died after years of dementia. He learns from her priest that, as a lifelong Beatrix Potter fan,  she wanted her ashes scattered on Lake Windermere. So he leaves his native Tokyo with his son, daughter-in-law and small granddaughter. But he's impatient, not wanting to wait for the arrangements they have made, but going off on an earlier train north. Only it's the wrong train and he finds himself stuck in the middle of nowhere with a dead mobile. A kindly farmer takes pity on him and drives him to the Lakes where his son comes to find him.

There are flashbacks to their first meeting decades earlier, and to the hard years when he was caring for her.

It's a slight film in many ways but deals with hard subjects -- hard, anyway, for anyone who has had to care for someone with dementia or watched another struggling to do so.
