| I too grew up with Bob Dylan at the time he evolved from folk to ‘electric’ when I listened obsessively to his Times They are A-Changin’ and Bringing it all Back Home albums. I adored the film because it brought back the excitement of that era and the sheer timeless brilliance of the songs. Chalamet’s performance is extraordinary. Without actually impersonating the ‘glue and sandpaper’ quality of Dylan’s voice he still manages to be utterly compelling and convincing in his performance of the songs. I didn’t mind that the film wasn’t strictly accurate historically, it told a great story and felt emotionally truthful. Among the excellent supporting cast, Elle Fanning as Sylvie stood out for me. Her face as she watched her beloved on stage duetting with Joan Baez was unforgettable. |
