Rio, 1970, and Brazil is under a brutal military dictatorship. Rubens Paiva is an engineer who used to be an MP before the coup, living with his wife Eunice and five lovely children. One day the military police arrive and take him away, saying they need to ask him some questions. His family will never see him again. We follow Eunice as she struggles to survive in a patriarchal society, arrested herself for a few days. The bank manager's response to her attempt to access family funds is that she should have hubby give him a call. Utterly brilliant film. I welled up at the end and thanked my lucky stars that I live in a democracy.
