I wasn't sure if I was up for this very long film, even with an intermission, but, in the event, I really liked it. It looks great and the deeply flawed characters keep your attention at all times. The thing that struck me was how ignorant the average American was of the war and what many Europeans had suffered and how their trauma lingered.
