An old friend of mine's father was on Gold beach on D-Day,as was my father(they did not know each other) and a couple of days after the landing there was a newsreel being made there featuring DeGaulle(who has a monument at Arromanche saying he liberated the town--he didn't,he wasn't even a part of the landings) and my friend's father's unit were lined up for the camera so that DeGaulle could shake their hands as he moved along them.He said one word to each man as he did so,That word wasn't 'merci',but 'partir'.I wonder if that's in the film.
