This version is set in East London - which works well to bring it into English (though makes the character names seem odd) Rudolfo and his friends are impecunious, arty flatmates with no money for rent or food but ample for alcohol. Mimi lives upstairs. She is already not well (but startlingly unconsumptive-looking)when they meet and fall in love. But he is beastly jealous. They split. There’s an other love sub-plot which I thought more engaging. Anyhow, Mimi’s tiny hand is indeed frozen and it doesn’t end well. Quick declaration of interest: One of Rudolfo’s flatmates is sung by my nephew and I asked ActOne to schedule a screening. Then they did four but didn’t tell me - so haven’t been promoting. The singers - including Mark Nathan - are rather good and the staging sympathetic. I loved the pub scene particularly. I met we’ll have seen and enjoyed it even were I not a proud aunt. One more showing tomorrow (Thursday)
