Topic: Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma

After seeing the film "Halloween" on its original cinema release in 1978, I must admit to largely avoiding slasher films and the variety of teenage vacation horror films that followed across the decades, simply because they offered little variations on their horror themes.

This release seems to be an attempt for queer cinema to stake a satirical claim to this horror genre, with the villain "Little Death" being a victim of transphobia and despatching his victims with a spear axe, while wearing a ceiling air vent on his head and a plastic bodysuit.

Add in an over-mined horror film franchise based on the original Camp Miasma film (which is shown as a film within the film) which Hollywood short on new ideas now wants to relaunch, using a bi-sexual wunderkind female director played by Hannah Einbinder. In doing her research, she visits the original Camp Miasma location where the original star of that first film in the franchise played by a reclusive Gillian Anderson lives. Portraying a mix of Gloria Swanson in "Sunset Boulevard" and a Southern belle, Anderson uses an accent that almost seems a spoof on Daniel Craig's character  in the "Knives Out" films.

By this stage the whole thing including the mock film sets used became for me just a messy surreal experiment which went nowhere. One suspects that this film will not generate the franchise it tries to parody.
