Riz Ahmed is Hamlet, scion of Elsinore Property developers, a predatory company. His father has died and his uncle has not only taken control of the company but married his brother's widow. The plot has been truncated and some characters amalgamated but the dialogue is mostly Shakespeare's which reminds one that it is, indeed, 'full of quotations'. Fortinbras is an organisation for homeless people, many of them made homeless by Elsinore. There is no swordplay at the end, just poisoned wine. Timothy Spall is sadly underused as Polonius, not even getting to do the 'Neither a borrower nor a lender be' speech. The high spot, for me, is Ahmed delivering the 'To be or not to be' soliloquy while driving a car at high speed on the wrong side of the road. The film is colourful and noisy, there's some fine Indian dancing and it's worth seeing.
