Raoul is writing a film script in 2026, settling it in 2004 when Elsa, a director of adverts with two 'cult' films behind her, is dating firefighter/stripper Beau. The action is mostly set in 2004 but with forays into the present day. Raoul's friend and PA Monica is furious when she realises that he has used a trauma from her own life in his script. Writers are selfish enough to use tragedies from the lives of their friends and family as material.

The film feels quite slow with scenes, or even characters, who serve no real purpose in advancing the story. I've long been a big fan of Almodovar (for it is he) but this is not one of his best.
