I must admit to knowing next to nothing about the classic on which the film is based though certain elements I remember from stories read across my school days (the one eyed giant, the wooden horse etc.). I went with my daughter who studied extensively at secondary school and filled me in on the pieces changed or omitted in this version afterwards.

Nolan is clearly now very good at this type of epic especially the visuals and the three hours did not seem overdone. I must admit in retrospect I found the various female performances to be the most memorable of the whole epic film (Anne Hathaway, Samantha Morton, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o) in what is clearly a very male dominated storyline.

Chiswick Cinema was still pretty packed three weeks in so the film has clearly done great business since release.
