| George is a lonely shepherd, tending his flock on the outskirts of a small English village, living in a caravan in the field. He reads to them every night, detective stories, oblivious to the fact that they understand him. When George is suddenly found murdered his sheep resolve to find the culprit. George's long-lost daughter turns up, seemingly set to inherit an unexpected fortune, along with her long-lost brother in South Africa. Our sheep are innocents. George kept them only for wool and they have no idea of the awful fate that might await them and their lambs on another farm. They believe that sheep do not die but ascend to the skies to become clouds. They also have the gift of forgetting anything unpleasant that happens. The story is deftly plotted, along the lines of Midsomer Murders, though I did work out who the murderer was. The animation is delightful with each sheep a unique character and they are voiced by such luminaries as Patrick Stewart, Bryan Cranston and Julie Louis-Dreyfus. I defy anyone to come out without a smile on their face. |
