In the near future, Brazil has decided that old people are best kept in Colonies where they will not be lonely. At first the age is 80 but, when it's lowered to 75, 77-year-old Tereza finds herself dismissed from her job and with a few days to board the bus. She is asked to show her papers wherever she goes and can't do anything meaningful without her daughter's permission. Determined to make the most of her free time, she takes a boat trip with a smuggler. As she boards the bus for the Colony a few days later, she's told that she must wear incontinence pads for the journey. Furious, she goes on the run. She hooks up with another old woman who tells her that the rich don't get sent to the Colony but pay for a permit to excuse them. She decides to gamble for the first time in her life. There's a film to be made about how society copes with an ageing population but, somehow, this wasn't it. It never really got going for me and I left disappointed.
