1985. 13-year-old Vincent lives on the outskirts of Paris. His parents are Jewish Arabs and he's preparing for his Bar Mitzvah. They are not well off and he has to share a room with his older brother who behaves the way all teenage boys behave to their kid brothers. He fancies a girl at school and is thrilled to be paired with her for a project but she can't even remember his name, until she learns his ethnicity and realises how much it will annoy her bigot of a father if they become friends. Meanwhile Vincent and his friends are desperately trying to watch a soft porn video without being caught.

Vincent's father has lost his job and is trying, futilely, to hide the fact from his sons. The caretaker on their housing estate treats father Yves with contempt while flirting relentlessly with wife Sandrine.

The film is a delight, the perfect mix of drama and comedy, which often made he laugh out loud. The boy playing Vincent was excellent.
