Clare, There are terrorists who do things in the name of religion or none. Ask any Muslim (imitating Mohammed) as you put it and they will tell you that so called Muslim terrorists are not acting in the name of Islam. Fundamentalist is any one who uses the cloak of religion or dogma be it communism etc to justify atrocities. A Christian fundamentalist is just as scary as one of any other faith or belief system. Also to George, I think if you read my earlier entry again you will find on reflection the main thrust of it is that fundamentalism is there in all faiths. Often devout members of that faith will say that the actions do not reflect that faith but nevertheless these bad things are done. What I do not feel you are right on is that the "British way of life" is not concerned with human rights matters abroad. Amnesty International enjoys a lot of support in the UK as do many other human rights/humanitarian groups. What is happening in Uganda is a big issue for a lot of British lesbians and gays and Christian liberal websites such as ekklesia. |
