I enjoyed reading the views of George and Clare, they make much sense, and it is refreshing to see some common sense debate on this issue, an issue that needs to be brought out into the open and made more open, to awareness by all. We all have a stake on this issue and cannot afford to leave ourselves ignorant of the issues of Islam. We do so at our own peril. I believe that the time is right to stop any further building of Mosques. I would like to see a ban on the Burka. I would like to see an end to this crazy world of Political Correctness which our town halls promote and our Goverments endorse. We like to pride ourselves on being a democracy and promote these values worldwide, yet we allow people to enter our country and dictate what they believe regards religion and culture, regardless of our legal system. "Digging a hole for ourselves" comes to mind. My politics are "middle ground", as i believe in taking the best from the left and right. I was very left, but like others, i became disillusioned with the spread of P.C.. My issue with Islam is that it is promoting views that are incompatible with British Law. I also believe that it's views are in violation of Human Rights. Both these issues leave me to believe that it is also wrong for this religion to be allowed to operate in the United Kingdom. It doen't get much simpler than that, plain and simple. We can talk about tolerance, culturism and religious differences until we are blue in the face, but first and foremost, we must uphold the Law, otherwise we risk the collapse of this country as a democracy. We have had a proud history in this country of individuals puting everything on the line to get Laws changed in this country, for the better of all, usually the underdogs in society, but i now see some of these sacrafices being eroded and i wonder what our grandfathers would say of the current situation in this country. To me, Islam is a step too far, it is time to take stock and say enough is enough. Let it be debated, let it be heard, let us hear our Politicians speak about Islam, let our Town Halls take account of everyone equally and not be afraid to upset one particular group because of who they are, let us have the TRUTH about Islam. If Islam is nothing to be afraid of, let the Islamic community come forward and tell us. Let the Papers expose the truth, but most importantly, let us debate the issues of Islam, freely, and without fear, and if it is nothing to be afraid of, let us embrace the the Islamic community. I am glad to see that that we have avoided racist remarks on this issue, although i question some postings as being nothing more than annoyance due to picking on one particular sentence from an aticle that is otherwise well written, so please excuse my utterances to Robin. We are sending young men of our Armed Forces to fight what is mainly Islamic insurgents, in Afghanistan, and it worries me that if we cannot face these Islamic fanatics in this country and deal with them, what message that must leave on the mind of a young service person who is prepared to fight for freedom, for us, and the Afghans many thousands of miles from home. We in this country have fought in many wars, fought for freedom against oppression, fought against aggressors, dictators etc, but when are we going to stand up and fight for own freedoms from people who are trying to take them away, right on our own doorstep. We are lucky, we don't need to be armed and in a foreign land, we only need to get our sometimes spineless M.P.'s to speak up on our behalf. I have drafted a letter to my M.P. and i urge others to do likewise. Thank you. |
