Alice Ugandan society, as far as I'm aware is a culture that is typically not gay friendly. Are you saying that Pres Museveni is a christian fundamentalist? Is he? From the info I've got it doesn't look like that. But I think 'fundamentalism' seems to be a term with pretty vague definitions, sometimes I wonder if it's just shorthand for 'very religious' or even merely 'religious'. I'm not actually sure how it's defined which is why I try to avoid using that term if I can. (Perhaps 'mentalism'would work better ?) What I did say was someting like this: Buddhist devoutly imitating Buddha = Not Scary Sikh devoutly imitating Guru Nanak = Not Scary Christian devoutly imitating Jesus = Not Scary Muslim devoutly imitating Mohammed = Scary Of course this is rather crude shorthand for brevitys sake. I explained in earlier comments why I say this. Please note. I did not say muslims = scary. Its specifically the example of Mohammed that scares me. BTW, following your premise. I certainly would not deny that human rights can be denied in the name of 'fundamentalist' christianity. Or fundamentalist jedi ism. Any creed can be co opted in that way. Human rights have been, and continue to be denied in the name of 'fundamentalist' atheism which is also truly madly deeply scary. |
