George, the short answer is that you are reversing the burden of proof. Islam IS compatible with English law until someone demonstrates that it isn't. The long answer is that the fact that some muslims murder for their faith or for Palestine or Iraq isn't grounds for treating them all as potential murderers, any more than Britain would have been right in the 1970s to ban the building of Catholic churches because of the activities of the murdering Fenian bastards (as DCI Hunt would have it). Why not ban synagogues, on the grounds that a disproportionat percentage of those involved in the recent economic debacle are Jewish, and that the Jewish "community will not reveal where they stand", and that "until the truth is known" we "see no reason to allow this religion to prosper any further in this country, hence my reason for saying we should not allow the building of any further" synagogues? Why not support Muslim countries that destroy Christian churches because Christians (in the form of the US) have killed tens of thousands of Muslim brothers? What you are suggesting would simply make us more like a mirror image of an Islamic state. What we should do instead is rather to toughen our asylum and immigration policy, and enforce the law more vigorously as regards incitement to violence of whatever kind. Oh, and we should stop sticking our noses where they don't belong. "Regime change" isn't legitimate under international law, doesn't work in terms of either instilling stability or reducing state-sponsored murder, and promotes radicalisation. |
