Change is always resisted. Not so long ago the introduction of wheelie bins was met with outrage and pitch forks. I for one do not miss the revolting mess of bags ripped open by foxes and dirty nappies being dragged in to my front garden by said foxes. This in my opinion has been a vast improvement. Then the LED street lightsoutrage; I regularly walk home in the dark and do not feel they are particularly dim. They no longer shine an orange light into my bedroom at night but the pavements feel just as safe. In two weeks, my street, St Dunstans has seen a noticeable drop in traffic. I believe this is due mainly to A40 traffic trying to reach the Vale no longer coming down our road as their sat nav doesn't direct them this way. Previously large lorries and articulated lorries would use the slip road after the pedestrian bridge and then down St D, as they cannot turn into Horn Lane due to the weak bridge. I will miss the opportunity to practice my Bulgarian or Romanian as I try to redirect a stuck artic unable to manoeuvre around the sharp corners, back onto Horn lane. Another recent absence is the morons driving up St D at high speed and crashing over the bumps. These used to be a nightly occurence that has gone. I remain sitting on the fence about the LTNs, I am a pedestrian, cyclist and driver, and will remain openminded about them. |
