Wandsworth Council have removed their LTNs after a public outcry and Grant Shapps said he's appalled at the way the councils have used the money he gave them. In Northfields, one local shop has reported a downturn in business of 40% since the LTNs have diverted the traffic. When Churchfield Road starts suffering will those applauding the road closures and quieter streets still be so happy? A lot of people, including myself, would regularly stop and shop on Churchfield Road on the way home. Because now I'm diverted via Horn Lane I just use Sainsbury's as it's quicker and I don't have a lot of time. It used to be quicker to stop quickly on Churchfield Road and use the independent shops but not anymore. There's also the argument that the roads are now so quiet that vulnerable people feel nervous walking home in the dark and with the new dimmer street lighting it's just made a muggers paradise. Be careful when the clocks go back. |
