"put a head in place like Sir William Atkinson with a mandate to win back the confidence of the local community." Do not believe the hype about Sir Willy. He is a skilled media operator if ever there was one. The problem with Toby's idea is that it is just another educational experiment which will divert resources away from the mainstream, as the accademies do at the moment, with very little success. Fix what we have, AHS has got great facilities, now it is time to work on its main product, the delivery of education. If you borrow £25 million through PFI to build a new school you have to have the political will to make sure that the education matches the facilities. It is is completely crass to ignore that problem and accept that you can not turn the situation around. As I have said before if teachers were allowed to teach and not have to spend inordinate amounts of time on classroom management, then we would start to make some headway. But I am not a fancy educationalist or someone with a Zedlebrity profile I am just someone who works at the coalface. |
