'And why in god's name does Toby have you lot in his thrall? What has he ever done to warrant such attention?' Perhaps he has just raised a very important issue that needs discussing. I don't think many people on here actually believe his plans are viable. You may have a point about 'white flight' although reservations about the school seem to extend to local Afro-Caribbean and Indian families that I know. The problem is that not enough people living in the school's catchment area of whatever race are willing to send their children there. You can castigate them for racism or snobbishness but that won't really help getting the amount of applications up. Not sure what Eton and Harrow have to do with the issue. If you want to argue that private education is inherently unfair and in an ideal society wouldn't exist they you would find some support. The reality is whatever the rights and wrongs the cost of abolishing private education in this country would be prohibitive and drain resources from schools like AHS. We would be left with a fairer school system with lower standards overall. |
