My daughter went to Notting Hill & Ealing High School - partly because I went to Wimbledon High and approved the Girls Day School Trust ethos and partly I thought Derwentwater wasn't very good when we were first looking at schools - ie about 18 years ago. My son went to St Paul's. Now, he probably would have done OK at Derwentwater but having done private for the girl, that didn't seem fair. We sent him there because it's very academic and he's pretty bright, it's local enough, it doesn't have Saturday school and it does think sport very important - and so does he. Education is the thing we chose to spend our income on - and we were lucky to be able to afford good schools...though obviously it meant we didn't do some other things. I think it's the best investment you can make...I do appreciate that many people have a principled objection to private education. It's just that I am not one of them. I am very glad to hear that AHS is going to have a sixth form - it was the lack of it that was one of the things that put me off - though I absolutely am not saying it was the only factor. Does that answer the question? |
