"There is a strong correlation between the proportion of children attending private schools in an area and the success of the state system." So? Correlation is not causation, nor does it explain which factual element under observation caused which (chicken and egg). It could be, for instance, that if the state schools in an area are crap, more parents will resort to private education. I can't see why this should be shameful, unless of course one is not practicing what one preaches. I also don't agree with what Peter says about faith schools. I went to a faith school for part of my education, and found the education to be far better than in non-faith schools. To put it bluntly, the teachers were more enthusiastic, knew more about the subjects they were teaching, and were better able to motivate the kids. |
