That's interesting. Horn Lane used to flood in winter, which it did most years until the main drainage was improved a few years ago. I always understood the floods were caused by inadequate drainage, but a friend living in a basement flat on Horn Lane was told otherwise by her insurance company. She was trying to claim for ruined carpets and was told that part of the problem was due to underground streams making their wayvdownhill to Stamford Brook. I have also heard about the petrol station located on what is now the Drive on the Friary Park Estate. There are people around who remember the Walls Ice cream factory. Did they leave the tanks in place? Surely the land remains contaminated if that is the case? An Environment Impact Assessment is essential. |
