| helen - I have sympathy for you. I live in social housing - our flats were built in 1955 and the Freehold has recently been bought by a company of 'developers'. See my posting of 24 July about this. They already want to build new flats on the estate - not affordable, of course, and we are all worried about further plans that they may try and implement. There does seem to be a strong feeling towards 'gentrification' of the area, and I get the feeling that they would like to put all of us poor souls in a huge ghetto where we would not contaminate the better off! It's all very well being told by our landlords that we will not be made homeless - we know that, but in the main we like our homes where they are and have as much, if not more, affection for them that some of the people who can afford to move from one stylish flat to another. |
