Very good points. I hadn't realised it was a tick-box questionnaire that Friary Park residents were provided with. Having been a researcher for many years, one is aware of "researcher bias" which basically means a) the researcher could unwittingly steer the consultation/report in an unintended biased manner or b) the researcher could steer the consultation/report in an intended biased manner! Seems their tick-box forms could have been "researcher led". Also, there are 2 types of research with the public or groups: Qualitative: This type of method involves describing detailed, specific situations and experiences using research tools like interviews, permissive surveys and observations (where no tick-boxes are used). Quantitative: This type of method requires quantitiable data involving numerical and statistical explanations. Tick-boxes and it's this type of research that is less indicative of the whole, as it's led by the researcher. Simples. |
