As residents in Emanuel Avenue we received issue 3 of the Friary Park Estate regeneration plan newsletter yesterday evening and were extremely alarmed to find that the plan has been changed to now also include at least one 20 storey high-rise building on the estate. I simply couldn't believe what I was reading. I am no town planner but has it not been proven that high rise developments such as this simply don't work on a social level? Not to mention the impact that buildings such as this will have on the surrounding area. It also breaks my heart to think that our properties, that we have worked hard to make into a home for our families and children, will now potentially be overlooked by these 20 storey monstrosities. Our privacy will be gone and our quality of life will be affected because of this. I for one will be doing everything I can to oppose these high rise buildings. Whether Frairy court actually needs to be rebuilt is a separate conversation, but if decided that it does, both the Friary residents and the surrounding residents should expect no reduced impact or their standard of living. With proposed high rise buildings Catalyst are simply trying to cash in on the forthcoming cross rail developments by cramming as many people into this area as possible. The local residents are the ones that will foot the cost due to reductions in property value and services (schools, doctors, etc.) It is a disgrace! |
