"It is a tragedy that the BSF budget has been cut, the school environment does have its part to play in students' attainment, but to lay that at the door of free schools just smacks of political opportunism. " But the parents and children who have been effected by the cancelling of the BSF won't see it the way you see it Charlie. They do not care where the money is coming from, they will just ask why has my kid's education been undermined and why is there still money for the Free Schools? They won't care about this budget or that budget. For them it is not political opportunism it is a matter of looking after their own. Charlie while you worry about the quality of the curriculum at WLFS, for the parents at some of the schools that have been cancelled, will be asking about the quality of life that their kids are experiencing at school. Now they won't be getting proper wheel chair access or lifts to the upper floors and more importantly some of the kids won't be getting a proper room where they can change their incontinence pants with a bit of dignity. When the cuts effect our vulnerable kids in this way, people will see your Free Schools as an unacceptable privilege. In the recent Tory manifesto they said to tackle the deficit "we would all have to be in in it together" to paraphrase an Old Etonian it's obvious that some of us are more in it together than others. |
