I think the % of privately educated children is much higher in London - closer to 25% I read somewhere recently. The problem the council faces now is that the birthrate is rising and the % of births that are still in the area aged 5 is higher than 'normal' and their expansion plans are too little to late so they are looking for the easiest, quick solution. The level of opposition is sufficient that I think they will soon see that despite the flat space that is perfect for a classroom hut it's not going to be an easy option and it definitely won't be a vote winning option. We don't want any child to go without a school place, or to be forced to commute to school. There are several schools within walking distance of the area that have more space for expansion, better ofsted reports and actually want to expand. Hopefully common sense will prevail - even if it is less expedient. |
