I am strongly opposed to the expansion proposed for Derwentwater and haven’t heard a single word of support from any other parent at the school - only incredulity that this has even been considered as an option. Derwentwater Primary is such a welcoming and well run school and is backed by a large community of supportive parents. Our new head is working extremely hard with staff, governors and local parents to raise standards and enrich the experiences of the pupils in what is an over-crowded school. Increasing the population of the most congested school in Acton is not a supportive measure. I wouldn’t vote for any councillor or MP who allowed this expansion to go ahead. Many other parents are voicing the same sentiment. I’m also really puzzled by the proposal of a new Catholic Primary. Is there any research that demonstrates the need for another denominational school? I’m not aware that St Vincent’s Catholic Primary continues to be over-subscribed. Also, a Catholic School would not serve a local catchment area but would serve the wider borough and beyond. I thought the whole point of a new local school was to respond to the increasing demand in the immediate catchment area? |
