Fuuny. I attended dirtywater in the 70s, and we had caravans then. No whole-school assemblies either. But I don't think it did any harm. What really did the damage was the lack of any overall curriculum. Incidentally, transients or immigrants may make it difficult to plan school populations, because this is so often dependent on the international situation and different birth rate traditions. Ealing has a high population of recent immigrants, and it may genuinely difficult for the Council to predict if the movement shifts from, say, Central Europe to the Horn of Africa. I remember that in the 70s we suddenly had a load of Cypriot kids, many of whom could speak little English. Really put pressure on the system. |
