The rights and wrongs of academisation need a much wider debate but for the here and now, we have a school in crisis, with declining numbers and an unsustainable financial output. What happens if AHS has to close in two or three years? Where will all our children be offered places? I want a good school in walking distance from my home. AHS is in special measures which means by law it has to be academised. Ark is a strong contender, only choice or not. As for longer school hours being promoted by government to act as wraparound childcare, I couldn't agree more. I'm a governor at Maples Children's Centre, it's my tenth year. I see first hand how much childcare parents want/need and it breaks my heart. But the needs of a child at secondary school level is different to nursery and primary school level. We have to work with the options we are presented with today and if we are a committed and cohesive community, we can have our voices heard and the school can be what we feel is best for our children. We won't get anywhere opposing this academisation to Ark. |
