| Slater KIng is the billionaire owner of a tech company, called out a year ago for MeToo behaviour. He did a big Mea Culpa and had therapy, bought a private island where he chills out and keeps chickens. At a gala dinner for his charitable trust, waitress Frida falls in his way (literally) and he seems smitten. Soon he's invited her and her best friend Jess to his island. Did her mother never tell her not to get in a private plane with a strange man? There are half a dozen men and a similar number of young women. Lots of servants, none of whom speak English, and a few venomous snakes gliding around It's all luxury, gourmet food and the best alcohol and drugs. So why can't Frida remember anything that happens between dinner and breakfast the next day? And why do women have unexplained bruises? Echoes of Jeffrey Epstein, who had his own pervert island, though I doubt it got as nightmarish as this. It's an enjoyable feminist parable but not for the faint hearted. Haley Joel Osment hasn't aged well! |
