I live overlooking the green on Friary Road and witness the daily frustration of drivers having to negotiate the road around the green because there is only room for one vehicle at a time - sometimes this means three or four cars having to reverse at the same time to allow another three or four cars driving from the opposite direction. We are lucky in that we have a shared drive but this too has its own obvious problems with the constant juggling of cars as a result of being unable to find a space to park in our road, let alone outside our homes. The parking around the green is so tight that people overshoot the corners of the green and drives and it makes reversing out of the drive onto the road very difficult as a result of inconsiderate parking. A month ago a van parked half way across our drive and I had to abort a planned trip because I couldn't get out. (Police and Council did nothing) Another time, coming back from shopping, there was a car across our drive with an apologetic passenger but no driver - it was 10 minutes before the car was moved and I had no option but to sit in my car and wait for him. Many years ago when the original CPZ consultation was carried out, we voted against but once the CPZ came into force in St. Dunstan's and surrounding streets, we inherited their problems and also parking by Carphone Warehouse personnel. The planned CPZ in our street cannot come quick enough now. |
