Alison commiseration on being a year on crutches. I think unless you experience this, you don't know how important your car is. I have had seven knee operations including a partial replacement and during that time my car which is an automatic becames my other leg. I was a governor at a childrens' centre in south acton and when a draconian CPZ was introduced in the area, I had to resign as I could not get to meetings, which were held in the afternoon as then the creche was available for parents. There is no public transport from where I live to the area and even if there was, I couldn't climb on a bus. For some of us the Big Society means relying on our car in order to be able to contribute. Happily the other school where I am a governor has a car park. |
