I've not received these plans in the post, so thank you for the links: have examined the maps and completed the on line questionnaire. The proposals seem aimed at 'easing' traffic flows and have very scant regard for the safety or convenience of pedestrians, and I speak as someone who walks across and up and down the High Street many times a week. (And I'm not a luddite - I do drive around the area as well, and can't see the plans making a significant improvement - or any improvement at all.) Can you imagine the juggernauts coming out of Gunnersbury Lane and trying to do a U-turn at Steyne Road?! If they do, they'll cause chaos - most won't even bother and will just do what they want, as vehicles do at many of the restricted junctions in Acton. I think the proposed mini roundabouts will be death traps for pedestrians who at least have some safeguards on controlled crossings (apart from being run over by cyclists jumping the red lights...) These proposals are some of the most radical proposed for Acton and would have enormous consequences for everyone living and working in the area if implemented. Yet I - and, I would suppose, many others - wouldn't have know they existed if they hadn't been mentioned in this forum. I didn't notice anything in the last Gazette. Surely they should be headlined on the front page of this website? [please, Ed??!!] Otherwise they will just go through by default. |
