I was brought up an Anglican and did drift away from the Church only to return to more regular attendance when I had a family. I won't deny that the school admission issue was a factor but we continued to attend once the necessary places were attained as did the vast majority of families at the same schools. The alternative, geographically based catchment areas, seem to me a worse option because the only parents who will be able to 'milk the system' are the ones that can afford to move into the catchment area of the better schools. This will, and has, led to social apartheid. Even if you continue believe that admission to Church schools is abused at least it can be abused by people on low incomes as well as the rich. |
