Appreciate your concern, Iain. Have you been to the Bryony Centre? Sounds like you haven't, but rest assured it's in excellent condition, having been used as an Adult Education centre until last summer. It's a former primary school with lovely big classrooms, a kitchen, an assembly hall, a large playground, etc. If everything goes to plan, we hope to house our 11-16-year-olds in Palingswick House, but not our Sixth Form so only 600 children in total. We'll have to extend it, subject to planning consent, but it should make an excellent school. It used to be one, after all. Anne, we'll have to use off-site playing fields, an arrangement that's by no means uncommon. Latymer Upper School uses playing fields next to Burlington Danes – you'll have seen the sign on Wood Lane, I'm sure. We've just appointed the head of sport at a boys' comprehensive in South London as our Deputy Head and he's now hard at work looking for suitable facilities. Local sports enthusiasts have been incredibly helpful and I'm sure he'll come up trumps. I hope that the school's likely home in Hammersmith won't put off parents in Acton from applying. We're reserving nearly half our places for parents who live within a five-mile radius so if they enter our lottery they'll have every chance of being successful. (The same chance I'll have, in fact.) Palingswick House is approximately 1.5 miles from my house and considerably closer for some Acton residents. |
