Rant away Sarah, that is your right on this forum. I doubt many are confused by the 5 good GCSEs reference. They are the minimum standard of entry to higher education. Without them, your child will not be accepted for A level study, or indeed for many of the more practical post 16 qualifications. You need to bear in mind that many GCSEs including Maths and Science can be taken at three levels, and even then your child need only score between 30% and 40% to secure a pass. For children who have grown up and been educated in Acton, it should not be possible for most to achieve this standard. In the 30 years I have known Acton High, this has never happened. I am sure everyone will agree with you that AHS has high standards of pastoral care but is this what we are talking about? I don't want to come over all Fiona Millar and ask you why you say AHS teachers are 'probably doing a better job than many teachers in private schools'. Could it be that the pastoral care is achieved at the expense of standards of attainment and behaviour?. Could it also be possiblethat in your view, 'bright sparks' from good homes need not receive as much attention as the educationally challenged or the simply indifferent pupils? I suspect this is where we may differ. |
