Fiona Millar is a long standing opponent of any school which does not fit her views about comprehensive education. This includes faith schools, independent schools and special needs schools as well as parent promoted schools. Her arguments are well researched and she has never deviated the position she took as a young girl growing up in a politically minded household. The fact that AHS has never managed to get more than 35% of its pupils to achieve 5 good GCSEs is quite irrelevant to her. It is a comprehensive and cannot be criticised. Any parent who dares to consider an alternative is obviously 'elitist, 'racist', or worst of all, 'middle class'. I say that if she is entitled to her opinion, then so is Toby, the parents begging to send their children to Twyford, and the one in six London parents who say that would send their children to independent schools if they could afford the fees. |
