This is not nimbyism - it is actually an attempt to make sure Ealing Council are adequately planning to provide services for the borough's fast growing population of children. ... and that means everbody's children. To give a bit of context, it was clear from the planning meeting last week that there are arguments going on all over the borough about school expansion. At the West London Academy the council has proposed expanding onto land already classified by the council as "too dangerous" for a school site because of its proximity to the A40. In West Acton there is a row about landing a "spaceship" into the middle of the conservation area with the building-design of a new Catholic primary school. Developers give councils money to provide additional services when they build new flats .... but how has that money been spent? Certainly not on a new school - which is what is the blindingly obvious need in Acton. So this argument is about forcing Ealing Council to think harder about its strategy for Acton and the borough. Moreover it is also about making them think about all the other problems coming over the horizon - all the extra secondary school places, nursery places, doctors surgeries etc that will also be required... So sorry if anyone thinks this is nimbyism - but it is better than apathy. |
