My children have long left Derwentwater, but when they were there we fought to get rid of the portacabin classrooms, to give them more playground space. After many years, they were eventually removed, and the children got some play space back. They then built the new reception class block, reducing the infant playground, but providing the reception classes with their own play space. If the new portacabins are allowed to be put up, there will be then be in the region of 120 reception class children (4 x 30) - will they all be expected to play in the small play area designated for reception children? I would not have liked my children to have been in such a large year group -and what will happen as these extra children progress up the school? Will they want to put in more extra classrooms? The school cannot house more than three classes per year group, there are no spare classrooms, and teachers will not teach classes of 40 children! This is not about NIMBY, this is objecting to trying to cram more children into an already large primary school(over 600 children). Does Naomi want her children to be in a school that has very large year groups, and not enough space to play? Her children will be the ones who will have to rush their lunch as the canteen cannot accommodate all the children. |
