Being a Labour council is not the issue it is this particular Labour Council. Many Labour Councils such as Camden are well run. This council are fiscally inept. Knowing in 2010 the government funding was being cut, instead of putting council tax up 1% p.a. to help future proof, they left it until last year to raise council taxes. There is the money they have lost in poor development deals, somewhere around £40m, then there are the poor investments, probably another £30m, money for court cases large and small they have lost,. Since c. 2010 Ealing has lost 1,237 council tenancies and has built, it is thought 31 units for council tenancies. Approximately 35,964 new housing units have been built or had planning permission granted, of which only 3,037 (8.4%) have three bedrooms and 277 (0.8%) are four bedroom. Approximately 9% are supposedly Affordable Housing and less than 3% are social housing. After those who have been moved out of the borough or out of London (over 2,000), there are still c.10,000 on the housing waiting list and 3,000 homeless. There is a fifteen year waiting list for a four bedroom property. But the worst of this council is their arrogance, they always know best, refuse to listen, some Wards do not hold surgeries and it is not just Acton councillors who do not reply to emails. One Acton councillor told a resident he shouldn’t email councillors as they were to busy to reply. And then there is Southall Gasworks! |
