| Newly dumped Patti is travelling by train to the Highlands in 1980 when she meets Eric Lomax, an older man, bit OCD, maybe, but still attractive. After a whirlwind romance, the two marry and settle down in Eric's huge stone house in Berwick. But Patti soon starts to wonder what she's let herself in for as Eric has appalling nightmares since wartime experiences that he refuses to talk about. The film is a little slow. Colin Firth is too young to play Eric Lomax. Some parts of the plot do rely on the implausible. But altogether it's a really good watch, if you don't mind the torture and beatings. |
