| The point about Bell is that there is a stark contrast between him and the last Leader Councillor Stacey who was full time and dedicated himself assiduously to making all Ealing a better place. Bell however by virtue of working for MP Sharma must by the nature of his job focus quite strongly just on the western part of the Borough. Stacey spent a lot of time in early years getting about the borough and had a much better handle on what was going on. Bell does get some £31K p.a. as Leader. I do think a Leader should perhaps be full time. As a matter of fact I place far more on Councillors who are really dedicated. Some of our Labour and Liberal Councillors have a very good record and they have also paid jobs. But some both Tory and Labour are idle. Housing jobs can be extremely demanding and no one knows the hours Mahfouz puts in as a cabinet member. But he is not delivering as one would expect and he should have a lesser role. |
