Well, this development and others like it are exactly why Ealing have come up with the figure of needing 1050 extra primary school places in Acton by 2014. But...even if all the schools in and around Acton Central were expanded and The Priory Centre was turned back into a school (which would only allow for a 2form entry at the most) Ealing won't get near to providing that many primary school places. How can Ealing Council possibly think that Acton's infrustructure can cope with this scale of development. I went to the exhibition today and discussed this with the architect. One of the many things that really irritates me is how we are sold the myth that attracting a supermarket to a town centre will be a catalyst for regenerating an area. If that was they case, then why hasn't Morrisons achieved this on the Town Square? No, Ealing you are wrong! Regeneration is driven by a positive shift in people's perceptions of an area and these perceptions come from the quality of services provided. Not whether its bloody Waitrose or Sainsburys opening up, which, by the way I doubt either of them will. |
