I just wrote to London Ambulance Service: Good evening, I thought you should know of an incident involving a London ambulance, which I witnessed this evening. At about 1820 I saw an ambulance with blue lights flashing approach my road from the south. It stopped at the gate, which is the border of the Low Traffic Neighbourhood. The gate - which had been there for decades but was never an obstruction because it was never locked - had been re-padlocked yesterday by Ealing Council as part of its enforcement of the LTN. Maybe your crew didn’t know that. Maybe they don’t carry the FB14 key needed to unlock. Either way, the vehicle turned round after a few moments and drove off down Shakespeare Road. Some minutes later, maybe 5-10, the ambulance entered Goldsmith Avenue -still with blue lights flashing - from the north and stopped some 15 houses north of me. The ambulance was obviously delayed by the closed gate and had to drive a considerable distance around the outside of LTN25. I hope no lives were endangered as a result. I assume you have a Datix sort of incident report and think this should be recorded as such. I understand the London Ambulance Service was not consulted before the LTN was introduced. This sort of incident must make you very concerned about the quality of service you are able to provide. If this letter isn’t enough and I need to put in a formal complaint or notification, please let me know. Many thanks Sara Nathan OBE |
